David Gentry was just 16 when Pearl Harbor was bombed and David wanted nothing more than to sign up in the Marines and defend his country that day. But his mother instead enrolled him at Texas A&M with the condition that if he went one year to college, only then would she sign the papers that would allow him to enlist before age 18. So at age 17, with one year of college behind him, David enlisted and was shipped off to the Pacific. David fought in Okinawa, one of the largest battles fought in WWII. Having accepted Christ at age 12, David's faith wasn't as strong then as it was as an adult, but it was the daily prayers of his sweet Christian mother back in Dallas that sustained him during the fiercest fighting. The knowledge of his mom being down on her knees interceding on his behalf has been a constant reminder of the Christian heritage he had growing up.
(Davis is deceased.)
