WILLIAM WAYNE LOGAN - U.S.NAVY from August 23, 1941 until October 23, 1945.
William Wayne Logan (always called Wayne) joined the U. S. Navy on August 23, 1941 and was assigned to the US Naval Hospital Corps. He was a registered Pharmacist and did his basic training in Pensacola, Florida, and then he was sent to Naval Head¬quarters in New Orleans. He wanted to "get in the action" so he requested to be sent to the Pacific, but he was assigned to the Atlantic. He was with the Hospital Corps that followed Patton through Africa; he then went to Sicily and Italy.
Wayne had a good experience in the Navy and loved serving his country in this way. Upon his return to the US, he was anxious to get back into Civilian life and was finally discharged from the Navy on October 23, 1945. One of his Pharmacy School friends had arranged for him to begin work at Jones Bros. Drug in Gulfport, MS. This was a good experience for him, and he really did like his boss and those with whom he worked. He joined the First Baptist Church in Gulfport, and became active in Sunday School and Training Union when he had Sunday off. It was in Training Union that Wayne met Dorothy Cook, and it did not take long for them to realize that God had brought them together. They were married on June 9, 1946 in Wiggins, MS.
After serving thirty years as missionaries in Nigeria, West Africa, Dr. and Mrs. Logan settled in Mineola,TX from 1982 until January 1999, when they moved back to Dallas. Dr. Logan came down with cancer in May 1999 and died on Good Friday,
April 21, 2000. He was buried in Mineola, TX on April 22, 2000. His memorial service was at First Baptist Church, Dallas, on Easter Monday, April 24th.
